Brief Biology:                             

“Paper wasps” colonies tend to be small, consisting of a queen and approximately 100 or so workers.  These wasps are social insects with a nest made out of paper-like material.  These nests can be found under raised porches, soffets, boats, horizontal overhangs, and commercial locations.  These wasp may become aggressive if disturbed, or if a person walks to close to the nesting area.

Treatment Methods:          

For nests you can gain access to:  use Pressurized Contact Aerosols, such as, WaspFreeze, CB Stingray, or ECO Exempt Jet.  Hold container in an upright position.  Stand a safe distance

6-15 feet from the nest.  DO NOT STAND UNDER THE NEST . Stand at a 45% angle (if possible) because these wasps tend to drop down, and then fly

out when treated.  Treat nest until thoroughly wet.  Best time to spray is early morning (since they group on the nest) or evening since wasp rest at night.  Read label prior to use.  If you are conducting a general pest control treatment, you can use liquid insecticides, For example, Tempo Ultra SC, Suspend SC, Bifen I/T, and others  to spray until wet over wasps nesting areas and within an hour all the wasps will be dead.  If you are treating a attic or area where you cannot use the contact jet, try a CB PCO total release fogger.  Shake well and press plastic tip until it locks, place on a level surface and leave treatment area.  There is a 2 hour re-entry time.  DeltaDust is a dust formulation and another product that can treat for wasps.  I went to a customers home and they had wasps going in and out of a pillar.  They also had yellow jackets moving in and out of their rock veneer.  I used DeltaDust where the pest were entering and exiting the home.  Within one hour, the wasps and yellow jackets were dead.  Sometimes you may have to re-treat the area, but most of the time infestation can be managed with one treatment.
